Merv, you recently sent me the first course on upholstery. I'M
DELIGHTED!!! You covered everything I would ever be concerned
about.
I've been a woodworker for about 20 years. Now retired, I want to
expand my knowledge. I reproduce 18th Century just for my family
now. I retired early because of cancer and diabetes. It's been over 5
years since my last cancer treatment, and am fine now.
Your course is a pleasure to follow. You explain everything so well.
Thank you so much. Joe

May 17, 2000 4452 Co Rd 95 Rogersville, Al 35652 Dear Merv, Thanks for making the
video on Upholstery and for helping us find the skin film for covering the cushions. (You
may remember me calling you some time ago). I had been in the business since 1982
untill June 98. Recently, our son Michael reopened the shop part time, we both have
learned a lot from your video. I was self taught and Michael had 2 years of school at
Shoals College, but you had some ideas we haven't seen. The Shops Name is New Life
Upholstery, located here at our home. Michael works 45 hours a week at Steelcase in
Athens, Al. His job pays very well and the benefits are really good, but his heart is in the
upholstery. He plans to get married next March and has a lot of praying to do about
changing to Upholstery full time. I just thought you might like to know your video was
greatly appreciated. I'm sending you a picture of Michael & Tara. They hope to some day
work in the shop together if that's God's plan for them. Thanks Again Jo Lemay

watching both Upholstery Training and Upholstery Secrets and was impressed with what
you have done. My first reaction was that we couldn't sell these to our audience because, as
you know, we target manufacturers as opposed to reupholsterers. I thought that they
wouldn't be appropriate. On second thought, however, I think we could sell these or at least I
would be willing to try. Let me know how you want to proceed. If you want I will return your
tapes. Sincerely, Michael Chazin, Associate Publisher mchazin@chartcomm.com udm

on to me to answer. The consignment shop is really for the crafts and home sewers to
sell their items. You, Merv, are the true entrepreneur! Age doesn't matter, nor does the
fact that you would like to sell your business and retire. Jessie and I were talking about
you today. You are so open to any and all ideas to promote or sell or educate people.
This is rare and keep up the true spirit of the entrepreneur! Judith The Fabrics Network

Hey there, Merv. This is Janice and Glenn from Chester, NH. We bought your videos from
you about six or so months ago and LOVE THEM!!! Thanks so much for producing them.
Talking to you on the phone has been quite helpful and thanks so much for your time.
My questions for you are: Where can I get the names and numbers of wholesale furniture
frame suppliers so that I can start doing custom order upholstered furniture? I am
moving to an island on the Maine coast and wanted to know if you have any hindsight
advice to give me about operating an upholstery business in a small community. Right
now our upholstery business in NH is booming and we have been begged by our
current customers to keep coming down here to continue servicing them. Any
suggestions for the bumpy transition period? What do you know about aircraft
upholstery? Anything different about it than auto, RV, camper, etc upholstery? (i.e. Just
pay attention to the way it is taken apart?) Many thanks for your time. Looking forward to
hearing from you soon!!! Janice and Glenn Bethune 603-887-5430

Hi Merv,
I just wanted to thank you for making those tapes.
I bought all of them and finished one DVD today.
I am an aerospace engineer who just loves to upholster
and now have my own upholstery business. Being self-taught like yourself I needed to see
some of the tricks of the trade and your tapes are just wonderful.
Here's my website: www.undercoverupholsteryandpaint.com if you're interested in seeing
some of my work. I have been doing it for about 6 years part time and about 9 months closer to
full time.
Thanks again,
Crin

Mr. Knutson,
Didn't know you had a website. I just happened to be bouncing around looking for
upholstery suppliers and Google tagged your
site. I was ecstatic because since I've become a big fan and so I wanted to send you an
email. I purchased a couple of your video's
from Southstar Supply in Nashville a few years ago when I was trying to teach myself
automotive upholstery. I thought they were
great (still do). They taught me a lot (hope you do several more). I have upholstered
several cars (and house items) since then. I
just wanted to say a great big thank you for your videos and your passing on your
knowledge. And thanks for the website (I'll be
back).
Sincerely,
Steve H
